Easter is just under 3 weeks away, and the Peeps are everywhere. In 1917, Sam Born, a Russian immigrant, opened a small candy shop in New York City that sold chocolates and other confections. When the company grew, Born relocated it to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and named it Just Born, after a slogan he’d coined to advertise the freshness of his products.
… In 1953, Just Born bought a local Pennsylvania confectioner called the Rodda Candy Company. Although Just Born acquired Rodda for its jelly-bean-making capabilities, the Born family was fascinated with the three-dimensional marshmallow Easter chicks, called Peeps, which Rodda was also making at the time. In 1953, it took Rodda 27 hours to make one Peep. Just Born mechanized Peep production and was able to bring the confection to consumers on a mass scale by 1954.
… Why chicks? No one at Just Born could explain why the Rodda Candy Company thought yellow chicks made for appropriate Easter candies. Company spokesmen also couldn’t confirm whether Rodda was making marshmallow confections in other shapes in 1953, although Rodda did manufacture marshmallow eggs at one point. Whatever shapes Rodda was making, however, Just Born zeroed in on the chick; the company didn’t start distributing the marshmallow candy in other shapes (such as bunnies) until the 1960s.

Sure she loves you. But does she trust you? A survey reveals she’s likely snooping through your phone. Three-quarters of the 1,000 women surveyed admitted they’ve looked through their guy’s texts and calls.
Do you like your pickles wrapped in cheese? How about popcorn with beans? What about ice cream on meatloaf? In a survey of Americans, these are just a few of the surprising food combinations some of us love. Research revealed mayo and peanut butter sandwiches, and cookies dipped in guacamole also made the cut. The survey found the most popular weird food combo Americans love is the dipping of French fries in their chocolate milkshake. Over a quarter of respondents can’t eat a meal without adding hot sauce to it while 27 percent can’t imagine eating a meal without mayonnaise. Beyond hot sauce and mayo, another 28 percent won’t eat a meal without a salt shaker handy. Half of us “freak out” if our different foods touch each other while on their plate.
Divorcing couples most commonly blame “drifting apart” as the biggest factor behind their split. The next most significant factor was infidelity, an issue for 30 percent of the 546 divorcees surveyed. Other reasons included financial worries (27%) and lack of sex (27%). In addition, 22 percent said work pressures played a part, 13 percent cited “different political and moral values”, and 12 percent blamed the pressures of raising children. Post-2020 election surveys revealed 24 percent of married individuals experienced increased political arguments.

Babies love a beat, according to a study that found dancing comes naturally to infants. The research showed babies respond to the rhythm and tempo of music, and find it more engaging than speech. The findings revealed that humans may be born with a predisposition to move rhythmically in response to music. The research suggests that it is the beat rather than other features of the music, such as the melody, that produces the response in infants.

In a survey, 49 percent of dentists said males are more anxious when it comes to dental appointments, while only 15 percent thought females were the scaredy-cats. In the survey, boys generally are no more afraid than girls. But as they get older, the fear gender gap widens. By the time patients hit their 40s, there are four dental-phobic men for every anxious woman. One reason may be that men don’t take care of their teeth as well as women do and therefore need more work.

Mickey Barnes is trying, desperately, to get off the Earth, so he signs up to be an “expendable.” These are clone workers on the colony Nilfheim. Now, he goes on many dangerous assignments where he isn’t expected to live through. Every time he dies, his body is regenerated. A problem occurs when one of his clones, Mickey 17, is thought to be dead. He is replaced, but Mickey 17 comes back to the colony and meets his replacement, Mickey 18. Now, the two must work together to fight their way back. Mickey 17 will be in theaters Friday, March 7th.
