BANNED!

The Oakland Athletics have played their last game for MLB with "Oakland" in their name, with the team's move to Las Vegas now fully in the works. One Oakland native in particular, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, isn't happy about it, and his group's tunes are now banned from two Sin City radio stations due to his recent remarks on the matter.

?Armstrong's comments: KRONreports that the singer spoke up about his feelings during a Sept. 20 concert at San Francisco's Oracle Park, where he ripped on A's owner John Fisher and then added, "I hate Las Vegas. It's the worst s---hole in America."

?Station No. 1: KOMP 92.3 FM, a local Vegas rock station, said on its Instagram feed on Wednesday that it "has pulled any and all Green Day from our playlist" as a result. The station added: "It's not us, Billie ... it's you," along with the hashtag #vegas4ever.

?Station No. 2: Next, X107.5 issued a similar statement. "Sin City heard him loud and clear—and X107.5 is not having it," the station said. "In response to Armstrong's inflammatory comments, the station is banning all Green Day music, effective immediately." The statement added that Green Day had played a pop-up show in 2023 at a Vegas concert venue, so the station was "surprised" by Armstrong's remarks. "Armstrong has crossed a line with Las Vegas locals," the statement sniffed.

?Previous bans:  Green Day has been "excommunicated" in the past, including at a punk venue in Berkeley, California, after the band signed to a major label in the '90s. That ban was retracted nearly a decade ago, "so maybe Green Day will play their cards in Vegas again soon," Abby Jones writes for the outlet. "But I doubt Armstrong is counting the days."

Remember when Ozzy got banned from San Antonio? Not just his music! They banned Ozzy himself from coming back. Why, you ask?

Well...

Ozzy Osbourne didn’t wake up Feb. 19, 1982, and decide he was going to cause trouble that afternoon that would get him banned from a whole city. He was simply going about his business, partying like a rock star, and after a few drinks too many he stumbled out in the street dressed in a dress owned by his future wife Sharon Osbourne (she had hidden his clothes to keep him from going out) and emptied his full bladder on the nearest statue he could find - as one does when one is Ozzy. He had no idea he was standing at the city’s sacred 60-foot-high Cenotaph, located directly across from the Alamo building. Hell, he was barely in any condition to remember what city he was in, let alone where he was relieving himself. Contrary to popular belief, Ozzy didn’t technically pee on the Alamo building itself, he peed within the Alamo Plaza, and he chose a pretty bad place. The Cenotaph was built in 1939 by the Texas Centennial Commission to honor the dead whose remains lay somewhere else and local officials didn’t take kindly to the public desecration by urination. Police arrested Ozzy, who spent part of the afternoon in a local jail on charges of public intoxication. He was freed later that evening on $40 bond and performed at the city’s Hemisfair Arena Convention Center. Though the fine didn’t even amount to a slap on the wrist, Osbourne was banned from playing San Antonio again until 1992, when he made a public apology to the city and donated $10,000 to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the organization that maintains the Alamo grounds. The city forgave him and Osbourne played two nights at the Freeman Coliseum, Oct. 1 and 2. “We all have done things in our lives that we regret,” Ozzy said at the time. “I am deeply honored that the people of San Antonio have found it in their hearts to have me back. I hope that this donation will show that I have grown up.”

Good boy, Ozzy, good boy...

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU

Tips from The Happiness Project.
• Try the “I know your name, but I’m blocked” dodge: “I keep wanting to call you “David,” but I know that’s not right.”
• Then there’s the “Of course I know you — in fact, I want all your information” dodge: “Hey, I’d love to get your card.”
• Or the “The tip of my tongue” dodge: “I know I know your name, but I’m blanking right now.”
• Try the “You’re brilliant!” dodge: “Wow, you have a terrific memory. I can’t believe you remember my name from that meeting six months ago. I can’t remember the names of people I met yesterday! So of course I have to ask you your name.”
• The “Sure, I remember you” dodge: “Remind me — what’s your last name?” If you ask a person for his last name, he’s likely to repeat both names. “Doe, John Doe.”
• The “One-sided introduction” dodge: “Hey,” you say to the person whose name you can’t remember, “let me introduce you to Pat Smith.” You introduce the two and say the name of the person whose name you remember. Almost always, the nameless person will volunteer his or her name.

WACKY-BUT-TRUE: PANTS THIEF

A policeman in Sweden noticed two men tussling on the sidewalk. One of the men said, “We’ve just swapped trousers.” The other man told a different story. He said he was walking down the street when the first man jumped him, yanked off his pants, and tossed a pair of sweatpants at him in exchange. The officer determined that the assailant had been refused entry at a nearby pub because he wasn’t properly dressed, and apparently decided that the passing victim wore the right size for him. The thief was told to swap the pants back, and then arrested for theft.

IT WILL TAKE OVER THE SKY!

The best comet of 2024 is already visible in the sky! Right now, observers in the Southern Hemisphere are enjoying the brightening Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS), and soon, the Northern Hemisphere will get a great view as well. This is the kind of thing that gets me super excited! I've been kind of an amateur astronomer ever since my dad got me a telescope for my 8th birthday. It was a refraction scope and it wasn't very powerful, but WOW! I loved it! Ever since, I've been fascinated by the sky. This weekend's comet should be awesome. Here's a link to some info and how and when to see it the best:

How to squeeze more time into your weekend...

Here are four tips to make your weekends feel longer . . .

1.  Do your weekend chores during the work week.  It's a little easier to accomplish if you're working from home.  That way, your weekends are for YOU and not endless tasks.

2.  Wake up early every day.  You'll get more out of your days, AND you don't mess up your sleep schedule from the rest of the work week.

3.  Make plans for Friday night.  You'll get in something fun to kick off the weekend, so when Saturday rolls around, you'll still feel like you have TWO weekend days left.  Just don't get too wild or stay out too late on Friday, otherwise Saturday will be a throw away day.

4.  Split your weekends between "doing stuff" and "doing nothing."  Meaning, you spend Friday and Saturday doing things like hanging with friends, errands, and chores.  Then on Sunday, do nothing as a way to "reset."

Good Old Fashioned Boob Tube!

For some reason, we love to talk about TV on the radio. After all, TV is just radio with another dimension added. Right?

62 years ago - In 1962, "The Beverly Hillbillies" debuted on CBS.  It was the #1 show on TV during its first two seasons.  Here's the first episode.  Granny, Jed, and Elly May are dead, but Jethro is still with us.  Max Baer is 86.

60 years ago - In 1964, "Gilligan's Island" debuted on CBS.  Of the seven castaways, only Ginger is still with us:  Tina Louise is 90.

56 years ago - In 1968, "Hawaii Five-Odebuted on CBS.

55 years ago - In 1969, "The Brady Bunch" debuted on ABC.

14 years ago - In 2010, "Downton Abbey" premiered in the U.K.  It ran for six seasons and there were two movies.

Some other stuff that happened on this date...

55 years ago - In 1969, The Beatles released "Abbey Road".  It was their 11th album and featured their hits "Come Together" and "Here Comes the Sun".

54 years ago - In 1970, "Rubber Duckie", by Ernie from "Sesame Street", peaked at #16 on the pop singles chart.

49 years ago - In 1975, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"opened in L.A. theaters . . . and it's still a cult classic.  Victoria Justice and Laverne Cox starred in the Fox TV remake.

38 years ago - In 1986, "Crocodile Dundee" was released, starring the still-relevant master thespian Paul Hogan.

34 years ago - In 1990, the Motion Picture Association of America announced the debut of the NC-17 rating to replace the naughty-sounding X ratings.

CATS FORM STRONG BONDS WITH PEOPLE JUST LIKE DOGS DO

Watch out, Oscar — cats also have what it takes to be man’s best friend. Scientists (Oregon State University) proved that cats do get attached to their human owners, just like dogs — they’re just often too aloof to show it. Using the university’s specialized Human-Animal Interaction Lab, the scientists put more than 100 felines through tests to see how strongly they were attached to humans after short absences. The tests showed that the cats “share social traits once attributed to dogs and humans. … The majority of cats are securely attached to their owner and use them as a source of security…”

The Last Heartbreaker

September 25, 2017: Tom Petty’s Final Show

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers performed their last ever show at the Hollywood Bowl. Petty saved the best for last, wrapping up with ‘American Girl’. The legendary rocker would die of an accidental overdose of pain medications on October 2nd. He was 66 years old.

So many great songs. Over the span of five decades, Petty had 28 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including 10 number one Mainstream Rock Songs. 12 top 10 albums on the Billboard 200. Over 80 million records sold making him one of the best selling artists of all time.

A straightforward rocker with a Southern tinge and a knack for writing great hooks. An MTV staple for many years, even winning three VMAs. He was also a Travellling Wilbury. Winner of three Grammys, including one with the Wilburys. Along with The Heartbreakers, he was Inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2002 - the first year they were eligible. He was the voice of "Lucky" for five years on the Fox animated show, KING OF THE HILL. He even played himself (kinda) in the Kevin Costner film THE POSTMAN.

I can't believe it's been 7 years. This one hit me pretty hard as I am a huge fan of Petty's music. I mean, as far as I'm concerned, it was like losing a Beatle. I had the priveledge of seeing him live 3 times. 3 of the best shows I've ever seen - and I've seen a lot of shows! I still can't listen to "Don't Come Around Here No More" without getting choked up.

IS SHOWERING TWICE A WEEK NORMAL OR GROSS?

An interesting question asked on Reddit: “Is showering twice a week normal or gross? My ex used to shower twice a week. I was constantly telling him that it wasn’t enough. It was pretty gross (at least in my opinion). He thought I was weird. He used to say that it was average for a man.” Gross? Normal? Guys, is two showers a week “average” for a man?

On your mark! Get set! GRUNGE!

Nirvana released its breakthrough album Nevermind on this day in 1991. Unbelievably, the album didn't win a Grammy. It is considered a cornerstone of the Grunge movement which was centered around the Seattle area. I can still remember the first time I ever heard the entire album from beginning to end. I immediately started it over and listened to it all again. I thought it was the most original music I'd heard in years. No one else even came close. It changed music and musicians forever. One of the most influential albums of all time. It still sounds amazing today. Who'd have thought that a little TEEN SPIRIT could change the world?

I knew it would. It was incredible to watch.

A few years later Kurt Cobain would join the 27 CLUB* and Nirvana was no more. You might have heard of the band formed by Nirvana's drummer. His name is Dave Grohl and his band is called Foo Fighters.

*The 27 CLUB is kind of a grim club to be in...cuz you have to be dead to join! It's made up of artists, primarily musicians, who died at the age of 27 years. Here's a short list:

Robert Johnson - Legendary blues guitar player.

Brian Jones - Guitarist and lyricist for THE ROLLING STONES.

Janis Joplin - Badass and highly influential singer from BIG BROTHER & THE HOLDING CO.

Jimi Hendrix - Possibly the most influential guitar player of all time.

Jim Morrison - Lead singer and songwriter of THE DOORS. Decent poet as well.

Jean-Michel Basquiat - American Neo-Expressionist artist who became a legend in the 1980s.

Anton Yelchin - Punk musician but mainly known as an actor.

Pete Ham - Singer, guitarist and songwriter. Founder of the band BADFINGER.

Kurt Cobain - Formed the band NIRVANA in Aberdeen, Washington in the late 80's.

Amy Winehouse - British songwriter and vocal phenom.

Chance Perdomo - American and British actor from THE CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA.

PREGNANCY CRAVINGS

Whether it’s ice cream and french fries, garlic on crackers or ranch dressing on everything, nearly 60 percent of pregnant women admit to having weird cravings. Nothing is too bizarre or unusual for some mothers-to-be, according to a survey of 2,000 women. Raw lemons sprinkled with salt and pepper, gingerbread men soaked in carbonated lemon drink, and mustard with french fries were among some of the unusual cravings.

A decades long development in the making…Francis Ford Coppola brings us insanely start studded cast and look into the future. Cesar Catilina is a visionary architect who wants to rebuild New Rome after a disaster demolishes the city. Mayor Cicero is against Catilina’s ideas. Cicero is granted a license to completely rebuild the city using Megalon, which is a material that can give him the ability to control time and space. Cicero’s daughter is, also, the Catilina’s love interest which causes her to feel torn between her father and finding out what life is like without the glitz and glam. The film has roots in the Catilinarian conspiracy of 63 BC and references Catiline, Cicero and Ceasar. The idea of the film was first thought of in 1977 and finally has been released. Shia LeBeof, Jon Voight, Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Dustin Hoffman and more star in Megalopolis, in theaters September 27th.

Could diagnosing COVID-19 become as easy as taking a photo? What if you could screen for infectious diseases like COVID-19 using some paper and your phone?   A new invention claims to detect diseases with just with just a piece of paper and your phone? Well, that’s exactly what some brilliant minds at Cranfield University have invented.
They’ve created a $1 origami paper sensor that can detect biomarkers in wastewater, using only the camera on your mobile. It’s like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, but it’s real and it’s making tracking diseases way more accessible. Who needs those expensive tests when you’ve got origami and a phone in hand?
Think about it: a pandemic plastic test you can craft with no more skill than required for a simple paper crane. The power of origami, the ancient Japanese art of paper folding, is going from cute to cutting-edge in a move that’s both crafty and lifesaving—literally.
My origami skills are limited to a square, a triangle and a triangle with a square. I can also make what looks like a wad of paper.

Here's a video of a guy who actually knows what he's doing:

10 YEARS AGO: THE INTERNET HIT ONE BILLION WEBSITES

It was ten years ago this month that the internet got its one billionth website. As of 2024, there are approximately 1.1 billion websites and out of these, only about 193.5 million are active. The remaining 82 percent are inactive, often consisting of parked domains or similar functions.

GAS POWERED LEAF BLOWERS ARE NASTY

Hundreds of communities across the country have banned gas-powered leaf blowers, usually because they’re annoyingly loud. Another reason phase them out: a single operator using a gas leaf blower for one hour generates the same smog-forming emissions as one car driving 1,100 miles.

It sounds made-up...but it's real and it's happening this weekend!

Welcome fall! The autumnal equinox—the September equinox or the fall equinox—arrives this Sunday, September 22 at 7:44 a.m. local time. The autumnal equinox is an astronomical event that marks the start of autumn (or “fall”). In the Northern Hemisphere, the autumnal equinox occurs in September; in the Southern Hemisphere, it occurs in March.

They just HAVE to be different don't they?!

Okay...time to get science-y!

During an equinox, the Sun crosses what we call the “celestial equator”—an imaginary extension of Earth’s equator line into space. The equinox occurs precisely when the Sun’s center passes through this line.
For those in the Northern Hemisphere, when the Sun crosses the equator going from north to south, this marks the autumnal equinox; when it crosses from south to north, this marks the vernal equinox. In the Southern Hemisphere, it’s the reverse.
After the autumnal equinox, days become shorter than nights as the Sun continues to rise later and nightfall arrives earlier. This ends with the winter solstice, after which days start to grow longer once again. Not only do temperatures drop, but plant life slows down, and so do we.

Here's more educational stuff:

The word “equinox” comes from Latin aequus, meaning “equal,” and nox, “night.” On the equinox, day and night are roughly equal in length.
Another definition of fall is “nights of below-freezing temperatures combined with days of temperatures below 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21°C)”. From here on out, the temperatures begin to drop.
And don’t forget about the end of Daylight Saving Time, when we “fall” back, setting our clocks back one hour and regaining an hour of precious sleep! This year it will occur on Sunday, November 3rd.

Hey, Gwen! That's not a BOUQUET!

Are we excited about the new Gwen Stefani album, "Bouquet", coming out November 15th?

Yes.

Are we thrilled to hear the first song, "Somebody Else's" coming tomorrow (Friday)?

Yes.

Do we think Gwen looks absolutely gorgeous on the cover?

Yes.

Are we a little bit confused about the cover?

Yes.

I guess the cowboy hat trend is hot for women right now so I have no problem with that. I mean, I don't think it's gonna be a country album, even though she's married to country-guy (AND VERY LUCKY DOG) Blake Shelton. He was featured on her last album, "You Make It Feel Like Christmas" from seven years ago. We play the title cut from that release every Christmas on Magic 95. But I digress. It's not the hat that's causing confusion...unless it really is a country album. No, the confusion comes from the discrepancy between the album cover and it's title. Did you spot it? Yeah. The album is called "Bouquet" but in the pic, the Hollaback Girl appears to be holding a single, long-stemmed white rose. What's up with that? Where's the rest of the flowers? Is she the bouquet? Is she actually referencing wine and not flowers? Will we ever get the answers to these questions? Maybe.  Will the new album be a big hit for her? Of that I have NO DOUBT.

Why did this former Survivor contestant face felony charges? The details will have you in disbelief.

And you thought Survivor was tough! John Raymond, a former contestant from the 2002 season of the reality show, is making headlines again, but this time for all the wrong reasons. Raymond, now 62, is on trial facing three felony charges of child cruelty for allegedly taping the mouths of students shut at Lakeside Christian Academy, the Louisiana school he founded.

Raymond, who also serves as a local pastor, denies all allegations, with his attorney Joe Long stating that he was merely disciplining the children reasonably and that no one was hurt. Raymond himself doubled down, emphasizing his love for the students and expressing confidence that the law would clear his name.

However, the district attorney’s office disagrees, labeling Raymond’s actions as criminal. For now, the courtroom drama is every bit as intense as an episode of Survivor, with prosecutors painting a vivid picture of humiliated children silenced with tape.

To add another layer of drama, Raymond alleges his actions were aligned with Christian education’s biblical teachings. Whether the jury finds his methods divine or diabolical remains to be seen. Stay tuned—this real-life episode is just getting started!

SMOKERS WORK LESS

A study found that smokers work one month less a year that nonsmokers because of smoke breaks. The average smoker take four 10-minute breaks a day — that adds up to one month less work annually.

John Chandler is the creator of the World’s Best Lasagna, an artery-clogging tower of sweet Italian sausage, ground beef and ricotta cheese that has reigned as one of the most popular recipes on AllRecipes.com for many years.  As of today it has a 4.8 rating (out of 5 stars) and has been reviewed almost 15,000 times. In 2001, his then-girlfriend, an avid AllRecipes user, urged him to put the lasagna recipe online, where others could make and review it. The dish quickly earned a string of five-star reviews and climbed to the top of AllRecipes’ rankings.

Here we go again...LAWSUIT!

Remember that lawsuit against Dua Lipa a couple years ago? Well...

HERE WE GO AGAIN.

Miley Cyrus is facing a lawsuit for copyright infringement over her chart-topping 2023 hit Flowers.

The former Hannah Montana star, 31, has been accused of copying Bruno Mars’ 2013 song When I Was Your Man, which also topped the charts upon release.

In an interesting plot twist, it’s not Mars who is suing Cyrus, but Tempo Music Investments, reports US news outlet TMZ.

The move is believed to come after they took control of part of the song's copyright with the Uptown Funk hitmaker reported to have sold a portion of his song catalog to Warner Music Group towards the end of 2023. In late 2019, Warner Music Group and Providence Equity Partners announced plans to invest $650 million in a new platform, Tempo Music Investments, according to Variety. In their lawsuit, Tempo Music accuses Cyrus of “intentionally copying” When I Was Your Man in Flowers due to the significant similarities between the two songs. The investment company claims that Flowers features a similar melody and harmonies to the earlier song, both in the verses and in the chorus. It alleges that the chord progressions used on Cyrus' tune - which she is credited for writing with Aldae (real name: Gregory Hein) and Michael Pollack - are similar to progressions on Mars' song, and it also claims that some of the song's lyrics are similar to those on When I Was Your Man, which was written by Mars with Philip Lawrence, Ari Levin and Andrew Wyatt. It is further claimed that “It is undeniable based on the combination and number of similarities between the two recordings that Flowers would not exist without When I Was Your Man.” They accuse Cyrus, her producers Kid Harpoon and Tyler Harper and her record label of all having access to Mars' song, though nearly everyone has access to the song, which was a hit when it was released a decade earlier and has remained easily accessible on physical media and streaming ever since. The investment firm is requesting damages from Cyrus, though it's unclear if it has specified a requested amount yet. In what is sure to be more of a blow to the singer, they are requesting that she and her label be barred from distributing Flowers, which might entail removing it from digital and future physical versions of her 2023 album Endless Summer Vacation. They also requesting that she be barred from ever again performing the popular song, for which she won two Grammys earlier this year.

The Standard has contacted representatives for Miley Cyrus and Bruno Mars for comment.

Ryan Murphy

The king of twisted tales, Ryan Murphy, is back at it again, and this time he’s bringing Charlie Hunnam into his dark and eerie universe. Hunnam, the Sons of Anarchy star, is set to lead the third installment of Murphy’s Monsters franchise, portraying none other than infamous serial killer Ed Gein. Talk about a career pivot!

Murphy, who shared the news during a glitzy Los Angeles premiere for The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, has everyone buzzing. From biker bad boy to the “Butcher of Plainfield,” Hunnam’s new role promises to be a chilling departure. Given Gein’s gruesome history of body snatching and crafting macabre keepsakes, it’s clear this series won’t be for the faint of heart.

Fans of the franchise remember the spine-chilling premiere with The Jeffrey Dahmer Story starring Evan Peters. Season two, focusing on the notorious Menéndez Brothers, is already set to unroll on Netflix. With Hunnam stepping into the role of Gein, we can’t help but wonder – will this be Murphy’s darkest season yet?

As we wait for the production to kick off next month, the Internet is left in suspense. Can Hunnam bring the same bone-chilling intensity to Gein as Peters did to Dahmer? One thing’s for sure: it will be a wild ride. So buckle up, horror aficionados – the saga continues!

GIVING BIRTH TO A BOY IS TOUGHER

Mothers who claim that giving birth to a boy is a tougher job than bringing a girl into the world have been backed by statistical evidence (British Medical Journal). Researchers sifted through a database of all births over four years involving mothers who were pregnant for the first time and discovered a slightly higher occurrence of trouble-free deliveries where girls were involved.

Don't laugh at THE BEAR!

Are we supposed to laugh at HACKS? Is THE BEAR hilarious? I think the answer to both questions is NO.
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences wants you to. They have both shows categorized as COMEDY. Really? Have they watched THE BEAR? Don't get me wrong, I love the show. I've devoured each episode hungrily and can't wait until the new season starts. I'm a fan. I haven't watched HACKS but I understand it's in the same vein as THE BEAR: Dramedy. Finding humor in some of life's darkest moments makes for great television. And over the years we have seen some great comedies deal with very serious issues. Conversely, most dramatic shows have great moments of humor. It's called comic relief, and it helps the show balance it's emotional elements so we're not just dragged down by all the heaviness. But when you watch a show that's listed as a comedy but it's hard to laugh at it, how can you possibly get any relief? A real comedy show about a dramatic subject? I don't think it's ever been done better than on the classic show M.A.S.H.. It takes place during the Korean conflict and follows a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital and it's cast of doctor/soldiers dealing with the horrors of war. But it was hilarious! A true comedy - as evidenced by the laugh track. It was truly funny but also took time to remind you that "this is war". If you watched any of THE BEAR's three seasons worth of episodes you might have thought it was a high drama with a few (very few) laughable moments. But it's a comedy? Really? Recently there have been a few shows that dance on the line between comedy and drama. ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK or BARRY were very dark comedic shows. But they were clearly supposed to be comedies. I don't laugh at THE BEAR. I cringe at it sometimes, but never laugh. Again, don't get me wrong, I love the show. But I'm struggling with calling it a comedy. I think what might be happening is a great love for Jeremy Allen White. For 11 seasons, he played Phillip "Lip" Gallagher on Showtime's SHAMELESS - one of my favorite shows ever. That show was clearly a comedy but did have many great dramatic moments. White was a standout performer among a very talented ensemble cast. He was nominated once for his supporting role but did not win. Even though many critics thought he should have been nominated for more than just one season. Now with THE BEAR, the academy might be trying to rectify those overlooked seasons on SHAMELESS. Some are saying that these two wins for THE BEAR are making up for his being shut out during his run on SHAMELESS. I don't know about that. If it's true, I'm okay with it. But now, let's see about maybe moving his current show to the drama category so he can win a well-deserved Emmy for his dramatic abilities. Are you with me?

How deep does the rabbit hole go? Discover the disturbing secrets of the doctors accused of fueling Hollywood

Looks like Hollywood scripts aren’t the only things being sensationalized – TMZ Studios has dropped a jaw-dropping documentary, unveiling a secret celebrity drug ring allegedly linked to Matthew Perry’s fatal addiction. “TMZ Investigates Matthew Perry…” dives deep into the dark alleys of Tinseltown where unscrupulous doctors evidently peddle more prescriptions than a pharmacy on Black Friday.

It’s almost like a scene straight out of “Friends,” but this one has no laughs, only gasps. According to this explosive expose, the so-called medical professionals have made a practice of getting A-listers hooked, turning them into their elite cash cows. And guess what? These aren’t rogue individuals acting alone; it’s a full-blown network!

Matthew Perry’s battle with addiction has been no secret, but this documentary suggests that it was more than just a personal struggle – it could have been the machinations of a deeply entrenched pharmaceutical ring. Hollywood might have to take a hard look in the mirror after this one.

Can we talk about the implications here? The line between care and exploitation is dangerously blurring, and this documentary might just be pulling back the veil on one of the most systemic issues rampant in La La Land. It’s a must-watch, but maybe keep the popcorn on standby.

15 YEARS AGO: 3D TV WAS ABOUT TO BE UNLEASHED

15 years go this week the CEO of Sony announced that the next big trend in TV would be 3D. 3D TVs landed in stores in 2010 but quickly fell out of favor. The need for special, often uncomfortable glasses and a lack of interesting content contributed to their decline. Competition from more appealing technologies like 4K and HDR TVs further pushed 3D TVs into obsolescence. By 2017, major manufacturers stopped making them.

Can MTV Still Call Them VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS?

MTV still calls them the VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS even though I can't recall the last time I actually watched a video on MTV. Maybe YOUTUBE should hold an awards show.

But, regardless of my opinion, the MTV VMAs 2024 were a hit! It was a big night with close races and plenty of top-notch talent taking the iconic VMAs stage.

Eminem opened the night with his first TV performance since he dropped his 12th studio LP, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace),” and Megan Thee Stallion — nominated for seven Moon Person awards this year — hosted, following Nicki Minaj’s turn as emcee last year.

Speaking of 2023, Taylor Swift was once again at the top of the heap with the most nominations. The head of “The Tortured Poets Department” was up for 12 VMA nominations this year, beating her 11 noms in 2023 (9 of which she won).
Swift made history by taking home the Video of the Year award, a feat that made her the first person to win the top prize five times. In doing so, she broke her own record.

This year’s awards featured performances from Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, LISA, Halsey, Camila Cabello, GloRilla, Rauw Alejandro, Benson Boone, Lenny Kravitz, Anitta (ft Fat Joe, DJ Khaled + Tiago PZK), Karol G, LL Cool J, and Shawn Mendes.

Katy Perry also performed a career-spanning medley of her biggest hits as she accepted MTV’s Video Vanguard Award.

In recognition of the broadcast taking place on the 23rd anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, MTV donated to the nonprofit 9/11 Day, which organizes the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, and Tuesday’s Children, which serves the families of 9/11.

Some surprises and some not-so-surprises. Just like always. Enjoyable though.

WHEN TRAVELING, TAKE PHOTOS BEFORE YOU ARRIVE

When you arrive at your vacation destination you’ll be ready for Instagram glory with your smartphone. But some of the most important photos should be taken before you arrive. Travel experts say you should snap a pic of everything — from documents to travel partners — and back those photos to a cloud-based service that can retrieved from any computer. Snap photos of your car, your license plate, your parking space, your parking deck/section sign, the boarding pass, your passport, your luggage and its airline tags, the contents of your luggage, your kids and, yes, even your spouse.

Today is a big day in the history (or HERstory) of Taylor Swift.

September 9, 2007 – Taylor Swift’s First No.1

Taylor Swift released ‘Our Song,’ and by mid-December of that year it became her first No.1 single on the Hot Country Songs chart. The song made her the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a No.1 song on that chart. Swift wrote "Our Song" in about 20 minutes for a high school talent show during ninth grade. It's a shame she never did anything with all that talent...

SWERVING CAN BE WORSE THAN HITTING ANIMAL ON ROAD

Do you brake for cats, dogs, squirrels, skunks and possums? How about horses, cows, elk, moose, or deer? Fight the urge to swerve as you brake if you don’t have time to check traffic first. Of course the size of the animal matters. If it’s shorter than your car’s hood and you don’t have time to check other lanes, go through it. If the animal is taller than the hood, avoid it if you can, knowing it still might be better to hit the animal. A spokesman for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says: “These crashes happen so fast, often times drivers don’t have the option of making a decision about what to do. But the best thing, unfortunately, in most cases is to hit the animal and try to avoid swerving or doing something that could cause you to lose control and hit somebody else or an object or go off the road and roll over.”  Most human injuries from animal collisions occur not when animals are hit but by the crash that follows.

Need help carving? There's an AI for that!

Halloween is almost upon us, and I'm down for all things spooky, scary and a little goofy. Of course, it wouldn’t be Halloween without a glowing jack-o’-lantern or two to adorn your front porch. But while my pumpkin-carving skills aren’t half-bad, they’re nothing compared with what a computer might dream up and execute. So I used artificial intelligence (AI) to devise the coolest AI pumpkin-carving ideas for the season. I only posted one because YOU should find a good AI image generator and design your own! Have fun!

The Era of Coach Swift!

Travis Kelce has revealed an intriguing bit of news: Taylor Swift is now drawing up plays for the Kansas City Chiefs. The revelation came during Kelce’s appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show” on Tuesday, where he openly discussed Swift’s involvement with the team’s strategy.

This confirmation comes on the heels of growing rumors suggesting the pop superstar is having a direct impact on the Chiefs’ playbook. As Kelce succinctly put it, Swift is evidently stepping into her “offensive coordinator era,” adding a new twist to her ongoing relationship with the NFL and the Chiefs.

There's no evidence to suggest the team has ever run one of her plays...but we shall see!

What's next? Taylor Swift doing the halftime show while simultaneously running plays from the sidelines?

The Chiefs kick off the regular season at home against The Ravens tomorrow night!

• Why Onions Make You Cry – The strong smell of onions has nothing to do with why you’re crying as you cut them. When you cut into an onion, you release a strong sulfur compound that wafts upwards toward your eyes. When the gas reacts with the moisture in your eyes, it begins to burn, creating those all-too-familiar onion tears.
• Why Toothpaste Messes with Taste Buds – Pretty much everyone knows not to drink orange juice after brushing your teeth, but most people don’t realize that the reason O.J. tastes sour after toothpaste is because the sodium laureth sulfate that makes toothpaste foam also blocks taste buds’ ability to perceive sweetness.
• Why Honey Lasts Forever – Archaeologists have found completely edible pots of honey dating back thousands of years in Egyptian tombs. Why? Its chemical makeup of hydrogen peroxide, acidity levels, and lack of water creates a perfect storm for a long lasting treat!
• Why Spicy Foods Make You Happy – Spicy peppers make you smile. When we eat spicy foods, like jalapeños or other capsaicin-filled peppers, our bodies release endorphins to minimize the burning sensation produced by the chemical.

Is Chili A soup?

A coworker was telling us that she’s looking forward to fall and winter because she love soups of all kinds. Then she started naming her favorites: French onion; tomato; broccoli & cheddar; chili. Chili? Is chili a soup? I polled the  staff and most agree chili is chili — not soup.

1,000 Pounds of Trouble: Amy Slaton

When you picture a Labor Day at the zoo, you probably imagine giraffes, ice cream, and family fun. But for “1,000-Lb. Sisters” star Amy Slaton, the holiday took a wild turn into a legal nightmare. After an unexpected camel bite at a Tennessee zoo, Amy quickly found herself in hotter water.

The unlucky encounter was just the beginning. Authorities discovered Amy in possession of illegal drugs and charged her with child endangerment. This scandalous revelation is a far cry from her battle with weight loss on the TLC hit show.

While we can’t be certain what led Amy down this treacherous path, the reality TV world has seen its fair share of drama. But a camel-induced arrest? That’s a plot twist no one saw coming. The camel might’ve given her a nibble, but the law took a big bite out of her holiday plans. Here’s hoping she can straighten things out and avoid more animalistic antics in the future!

Despite being a short week with the holiday, there's still plenty of new shows and movies this week. Here's everything that's new to watch starting with a few highlights that stood out to us. Scroll down to see the full list by platform.
