4 THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW YESTERDAY

Today I decided to keep it nice and short because i found these 4 facts very interesting and I wanted to share them with you.

• The average person’s skeleton weighs 29 pounds.
• The official soft drink of the state of Nebraska is Kool-Aid.
• A blue whale’s tongue weighs as much as an elephant.
• The Bible does not specify the the number of wise men who followed a star. The tradition of “three” wise men likely arose because three gifts were mentioned.

One of the inevitable year-end lists: Movies

The Box Office was back in a big way in 2024. Have we fully recovered from the pandemic-stricken box office nightmare of 2020 and 2021?

I have no idea.

But this has got to be a good sign that maybe we have! Don't get me wrong, I love streamers. But there's something to be said for going to a theater with a bunch of strangers and enjoying a laugh or a cry or a scream.

This year, many returned to theaters because if you Sequel it, they will come! Out of the top 10 highest grossing movies of 2024, 9 of them were sequels.

Someone once said "People don't know what they like. They like what they know." Which is a good way to look at this years top 10 movies.

Sequels exist not only because movie goers (mostly) want to know more about the characters and other elements from movies they enjoyed. Usually there are a lot of people feeling that way because the movies that get sequels are hit movies and blockbusters. They don't really make sequels to flops. So ever since their invention, sequels have been almost undeniable. This year they came back with a triumphant 9 out of 10 of the year's top moneymakers. So, for the week ending December 29, here are the top 10 highest grossing movies of 2024:

10) Beetlejuice Beetlejuice                                                   $451,000,000+

 9) Venom: Last Dance                                                          $476,000,000+

 8) Kung Fu Panda 4                                                              $547,000,000+

 7) GodzillaXKong: The New Empire                                   $571,000,000+

 6) Wicked                                                                               $634,000,000+

 5) Dune Part 2                                                                       $714,000,000+

 4) Moana 2                                                                             $882,000,000+

 3) Despicable Me 4                                                               $969,000,000+

 2) Deadpool & Wolverine                                                    $1.3 BILLION+

 1) Inside Out 2                                                                      $1.6 BILLION+

HERE'S HOW LONG IT TAKES TO DECIDE TO MARRY SOMEONE

A new study (University of Chicago) polled married people and found that, on average, it took them just 172 days to decide that they wanted to get hitched. That’s about six months — and it’s less time, researchers found, than most people estimate they’ll need before making that big call. Surveyed singles told the researchers that they’d need about 210 days to make up their minds about their potential suitors.

WINTER WEATHER CRISES COME IN 5 STAGES

Michael Smith is an educator in Illinois who had a blog called The Principal’s Page. One of his most popular posts was about the hassle of snow days: For a school administrator, the first snow of the year is always the worst. An inch can cause people to go completely ballistic: The phone rings off the hook at school just as soon as the first snowflake hits the ground (sometimes days in advance… and I’m not kidding). Winter weather crises come in five stages: Stage One — The initial news reports (a week in advance) saying we could get between a single flake and 1 inch of light snow. Stage Two — Sheer panic by the general public that if school is not dismissed, literally thousands of people will die on the streets in car accidents or by starvation (hence the run on stores for food…). Stage Three — School is canceled and everyone survives to go sledding or shopping by 10AM. Stage Four — Later that same winter (after 8 other storms) an actual blizzard drops 29 inches of snow in 30 minutes. Stage Five — Parents call the school, begging the administration not to dismiss because they are sick of having their children at home and they “need to go to work.”

HOW DO YOU SPREAD PEANUT BUTTER & JELLY? _

How do you make a peanut butter & jelly sandwich? A guy on reddit had a question for us: “I asked if my wife would make a pbj for the kid’s lunch, she obliged. I was watching her as I was doing dishes. I was absolutely shocked. I’d NEVER thought about a pbj being constructed any other way than how I do it: peanut butter one side, jelly the other side, close. My wife made it with peanut butter on both sides and then jelly on top of the peanut butter. Is my wife a heathen? My whole life is teetering on madness.” A number of people commented like this person: “By coating both pieces of bread in peanut butter, it creates a barrier between the jelly and the bread which stops the bread from going soggy.” Someone else commented: “That’s nothing. My grandmother mixed the peanut butter and jelly together into a single consistency, then spread that.”

Liam Payne's Last Hours: What Really Happened Before the Fall?

The tragic events surrounding Liam Payne’s last hours have taken a front-row seat in the gossip mill, and it’s not just fans who are talking. His close friend, Roger Nores, painted a picture of Liam as playful and in good spirits just before his fatal fall from a hotel balcony. But hold your horses—authorities and bystanders seem to have a completely different story in their back pockets. They claim Liam was not just tipsy but completely unhinged, with a cocktail of alcohol and drugs fueling his last moments.

What’s even crazier is that Nores supposedly checked on Liam a few times before he took the fateful plunge. He described Liam as “happy and fine” but did admit he was a bit tipsy. With eyewitness accounts suggesting otherwise, it sounds like someone’s painting a pretty rosy picture. It’s almost like a scene from a soap opera, with the drama thick enough to cut with a knife. One wedding guest even reported that Liam looked like he was on a downward spiral, growing more intoxicated and bombarding Roger with texts asking for more drugs.

And let’s not forget the moment when Liam allegedly slammed his laptop down in a fit of rage! You can just picture it, akin to a blockbuster movie scene where everything falls apart right before the climax. As hotel staff intervened and dragged him back to his room, it seems like everyone knew something was brewing—yet somehow, he was left alone to simmer. The upcoming documentary titled “TMZ Investigates: Liam Payne: Who’s to Blame?” is bound to unpack these heavy layers, but it feels like we’re only scraping the surface of a much deeper and more complicated story.

Sadly, this saga raises unsettling questions about celebrity culture and how it can leave people vulnerable in their darkest moments. So as we keep one ear to the ground, we’re all left wondering—did Liam have the right support system, or was it just a ticking time bomb masked under his fame and fortune?

Dick Van Dyke Turns 99: Still Dancing, Laughing, and Making Us Feel Young

It’s not every day you get to celebrate a 99th birthday for an entertainment legend, but here we are! Dick Van Dyke, the man who brought us unforgettable roles in classics like “Mary Poppins” and “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” is still lighting up our lives, one dance move at a time. Just the other day, he boogied his way into a Coldplay music video, proving that not only is he Hollywood royalty, but he also has the moves that would make even the most seasoned TikTok star green with envy!

In a heartwarming video, the ageless Van Dyke dances and sings along to Coldplay’s “All My Love.” At 99, he’s not just reminiscing about his glory days—he’s showing the world that age is merely a number. Isn’t it refreshing to see someone defy the stereotypes that come with aging? With every step and soft-shoe shuffle, Van Dyke reminds us that staying youthful is all about keeping that playful spirit alive, and who better to take life lessons from than the guy who juggled comedy and charm like a pro for decades?

Then there’s his incredible backstory, which reads like a Hollywood fairytale itself. He started off nervously auditioning for his first major role in “Bye Bye Birdie,” completely lacking in dance experience. But when push came to shove, he hit the stage with an impromptu soft-shoe routine that wowed the director! Talk about a plot twist! Now this seasoned entertainer shares a whimsical philosophy about adulthood—that it’s really just a costume we wear, fooling everybody while the inner child runs wild.

As we raise a glass to this iconic figure, what’s a birthday without a little reflection? Van Dyke’s legacy is one full of laughter, lessons, and a sprinkle of magic. If only we could all capture that youthful essence while filling our grocery carts with soft-shoe dance moves! Cheers to you, Dick! May your laughter and dancing continue to inspire generations to come

ARE YOU A FREAKISH HYBRID? THE ANSWER MAY SHOCK YOU!

ARE YOU A FREAKISH HYBRID? THE ANSWER MAY SHOCK YOU!

What kind of freak are you?

It's not a serious question.

It IS the first question on the Lady Gaga employment application.

No, not that either.

Maybe it's more of a pondering. Let me break it down:

Are you a BOOMER or GEN X?

It's hard to tell for some of us. Some of us were born in those years in between a solid A or B. Or should I say a solid (B)oomer or (X)Gen? I've accepted my burden as a spokesperson for the modern, thinking human and have crafted some questions to help you answer that question. Not the first question, about what kind of freak you are. I don't judge. Get yours! I'm talking about the second question, the question about (B) or (X).  That's where we are now. All caught up? These questions might help you understand where you stand. Understand? Then again, they may just confuse or alienate you. I don't apologize for art.

In any case, seriously, whatever.

10 questions. No right or wrong answers. Only ones that make you feel old. If you don't understand the questions, you're a zygote. Bless your heart!

1) Ever drink water from the front yard hose? Backyard hose? Any hose?

2) Remember "DUCK AND COVER" nuclear war drills? In Oklahoma they were also called "TORNADO DRILLS". Similar to fire drills, with the notable exception being instead of getting out of the building, you grabbed a heavy book and crawled into the hallway and covered your head with that book. I found that history and social studies books offered the sturdy protection I deserved.

3) Latchkey kids. Some of these questions will be easier to understand if you were a latchkey kid. You know, home from school by 4 o'clock and Mom and/or Dad won't be home till after 5? That's when you could the most fun. Translate: That's when you could get in the most trouble.

4) Latchkeyers: Remember watching anything you wanted on TV? Unrestricted? You could get a good hour of HBO, Showtime, or Cinemax (Skinamax) in before parental figures ruined it! If you just asked, "Why didn't they just go online?" Congratulations. You just destroyed an acre of pristine rainforest.

5) Did you have to wait for your turn to use the one phone in your house? Is that too terrifying for you? Too real? It was hell, but we mostly survived. Thank you, PONG and ATARI.

6) Latchkeyers: Remember playing outside unsupervised for hours and hours? You either had the time of your life and learned important social lessons that helped you grow as a person, or you were dead in a ditch somewhere. If you managed to avoid the ditch, you were all good until the streetlights came on. At that point, if you weren't home, a ditch might be preferable to the trouble you'd be in.

7) Remember playing on dangerous playground equipment? The tornado slide was a favorite. In the summertime, the metal ones would get so hot it was like sliding down a roller grill. The merry-go-round? More like the scary-go-round! And how about the geodesic dome of doom called the monkey bars?

8) Spats? Paddling? Did you have a preference? Yes. Your local public schools had the authority to discipline you by making you bend over and take spankings from a huge wooden paddle. I say they had the "authority", but I mean they had the opportunity, the chance, the privilege of whupping ass.

9) Smoking, smoking and more smoking! Everywhere! Our bus driver smoked. The teachers' lounge always had a big glass window, but you couldn't tell who was in there because of the smoke. A ten-year-old could buy cigarettes with a note from Mom. Ever try to eat a nice meal in a room full of smoke? Waiting rooms, airplanes, public transportation, movie theaters...Everywhere!

10) Remember riding around with no seat belts? Not only not wearing a seat belt, but standing up in your seat, climbing into the back window, moving from seat to seat... It was almost like a contest to see which parts of the car you could fit into. What's an airbag?

If you can relate to any of these questions, then...YOU"RE OLDER THAN ME! If you can only relate to one or two, you are a hybrid: in between Gen X and Boomers. Poor thing.

JK.

Enjoy your remaining days.

WOMEN MORE LIKELY TO REACH FOR JUNK FOOD WHEN STRESSED

Australian researchers have turned up evidence that females are more likely than males to reach for junk food when they experience negative emotions. In the study — done on mice — researchers (Florey Institute of Neuroscience) believe the female brain is more susceptible to emotional triggers that lead to overeating. In experiments  the researchers discovered that female mice displayed binge eating behavior when under emotional stress. Male mice did not.

5 YEARS AGO WE WERE TALKING ABOUT A TERRIBLE PELOTON AD

It was five years ago this month that Peloton released a holiday ad titled “The Gift That Gives Back” — and the backlash was immediate. The ad showed a husband gifting his wife a Peloton exercise bike, with her documenting her fitness journey over the following year. Aviation Gin notably produced a comedic response featuring the same actress from the original ad.

Important to know about your Fingers

A study found that if a girl’s ring finger is exceptionally long, she stands a good chance of becoming an athlete. [And if her middle finger is exceptionally long, she stands a good chance of becoming a Professional Karen.]

And in sad news

YOU ARE MOST LIKELY TO DIE AT 11AM _ Particularly when you’re older, you are 14 percent more likely to die on your birthday than on any other day of the year. Particularly when you live in certain geographical areas, you are 13 percent more likely to die after getting a paycheck. And particularly when you’re human, you are more likely to die in the late morning — around 11AM than at any other time during the day. (From a study published in the Annals of Neurology.)
