OBVIOUS: WINTER IS BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH, APPEARANCE, AND SEX LIFE _

Winter is bad for your health, appearance and your sex life. A poll of 2,000 adults found the cold and dark winter months result in an increase in illnesses, a lower mood and an overall lack of motivation. People in the survey said they have less energy, struggle to wake up, have sore and achy joints and muscles, and are more likely to consume unhealthy or sugary foods than in the summer months.

I JUST ATE TURKEY...ZZZZZZZZ

When someone says, "Oh, man am I sleepy...(yawn) I ate so much Turkey...it always makes me sleepy...", first of all, don't be rude.

Save that for later when your Uncle Ed starts in with the conspiracy theories after he's had...however many he's gonna have. No.

Just simply smile and say, "Oh yeah? Wow. You must have eaten a lot! Like, over 8 lbs, right?"

(I said don't be rude. I didn't say don't be sarcastic)

They will probably think they did eat 8 pounds of turkey - which would be most of the bird - but they didn't. Actually I don't know how much turkey the average person eats on Thanksgiving. I know how much I eat. I know it's no where near 8 pounds! A single three-ounce serving (about the size of a deck of cards) of roasted turkey without the skin contains: Calories: 145. Protein: 25 grams. Fat: 4 grams. Turkey has slightly less tryptophan than chicken, and many nuts and seeds have more.
You would need to eat about 20 servings of turkey to consume as much tryptophan as one supplement, which would be enough to feel it...A LOT!

Other factors that can make you feel sleepy after eating a large meal include:
Digestion
Your body increases blood flow to your stomach to digest the large meal, which can lead to less blood to your brain.

Portion size
The large portion of turkey you eat at Thanksgiving dinner contains more tryptophan, carbs, and calories than you normally eat.

Other foods that are high in tryptophan include:
cheese, yogurt, eggs, fish, pork chops, pork tenderloin, skirt steak, ground pork, chuck steak, and roasted ham.

And they all sound delicious!

Eat, drink, be merry!
HAPPY BIRDDAY!

HOW LONG IT TAKES AVERAGE PERSON TO GET SICK OF FAMILY OVER THE HOLIDAYS

Research shows it takes less than four hours before we need a break from our extended family during the holidays. The survey of adults who travel to visit family for the holidays found we can spend an average of three hours and 54 minutes with family before needing a moment to ourselves. One in four of those surveyed have hidden in a relative’s house to take a moment alone, while 37 percent have gone so far as to make an excuse and leave the house altogether.

Rose "Number One Girl"

Ariana Grande "Popular (From Wicked)"

"Wicked" fans won't like this one bit ...

Hey “Wicked” fans …. You probably won’t like this. AMC Theaters are not going to let you sing along.

They're running a 30-second warning set to clips from the movie that says, quote, "No talking. No texting. No singing. No wailing. No flirting. And absolutely no name-calling. Enjoy the magic of movies."

No doubt other theaters will enforce a similar policy. But, just like with the Taylor Swift "Eras Tour" movie, it's probably going to be hard to keep fans quiet.

Theaters around the country WILL hold special screenings where audience participation is encouraged . . . but they don't start until Christmas Day.

SLOW WALKERS MORE LIKELY TO DIE OF HEART DISEASE

Slow walking may not only mean getting to your destination later, according to a study by French scientists older people who walk slowly are almost three times more likely to die of heart disease and related causes than older people who walk faster. The researchers say the main message is that maintaining fitness at an older age may have important consequences and help preserve life and muscle function.

CHEER UP BY LOOKING UP YOUR DEPRESSING FRIENDS ON FACEBOOK

We all have those days when we’re feeling down: life isn’t going our way and we want to feel better about ourselves. The solution? If you use Facebook, a study (Ohio State University) suggests looking up friends who are complaining about their problems. Researchers had participants look at fake profiles on a fake social network. Those profiles had successful and unsuccessful people. People who were put in a bad mood by the experiment spent more time reading profiles of unsuccessful people. Researchers explained why: If you need a self-esteem boost, you’re going to look at people worse off than you. You’re probably not going to be looking at the people who just got a great new job or just got married. Your problems may not seem as bad when you look at other people’s struggles.

WANT TO BE A BETTER PERSON? SHARE YOUR PIZZA

The act of sharing a meal makes you kinder and gentler. A study (University of Antwerp in Belgium) found that the act of sharing a meal, as in literally sharing a plate of sushi or pizza or something else yummy, instead of just ordering your own meal that you keep all for yourself, makes for kinder and more gentle people. For example, people who share food are the first to give up their seat on a subway, lend a helping hand to random strangers or a friend, volunteer their time, and a whole boatload of other altruistic behaviors. And all because they know how to share. The study’s author said the reason people can benefit from sharing a meal is because they’re forced to think about fairness in regards to equal portions; authority, because there is something to be said for those who are served first; and greed, in that no, you cannot have everything you want or more than the others at the table.

Bear-y Bad Idea: How a Cheap Costume Almost Cost Four Men $140K!

Imagine this: a group of guys huddled together, brainstorming the ultimate insurance scam. They finally land on a killer idea—to don a bear suit and wreck their expensive cars for cash. Sounds like a plot twist straight out of a comedy, right? But in California, this bizarre scheme went from wild to wilder when it backfired spectacularly, landing them in some serious legal trouble.

Enter Glenn Ennis, the actor behind the menacing bear that mauled Leonardo DiCaprio in “The Revenant.” He weighed in on the situation, and his take is sheer gold. With a chuckle, Ennis pointed out that if these wannabe crooks had done a bit of research on bear behavior, they might not have looked so silly—with their costume moving on knees, no less. I mean, who doesn’t know that bears walk on all fours? It’s not exactly rocket science!

What really gets me is how the authorities caught onto this fractured fairy tale so quickly. Not only were investigators sharp enough to see through the ruse, but they even enlisted biologists to dissect the evidence video. Talk about bringing in the big guns. They’ve got experts weighing in on faux bear antics while these guys are sweating bullets, trying to explain how they thought they could get away with it.

In the end, four dudes are stuck with a hefty charge of attempting to defraud an insurance company for a ridiculous $140,000. Maybe they should have stuck to more traditional schemes—or, better yet, skipped the bear suit and bared their souls instead. Just goes to show that when it comes to crime, sometimes you can take the bear out of the costume, but you can’t take the foolishness out of the scam.

DON'T LET THEM DIE!

Oh, the times they are a-changin'! No one really says that anymore. But Bob Dylan was right. The only constant is change. People change. Music changes. Literature, science, philosophy - ALL CHANGE.

Language is not immune. Just like human beings, language is a dynamic thing. It changes and evolves over time according to our needs and desires. Of course, while this helps our words to stay up to date with our trends, it means we leave behind some great words and phrases because we find replacements for them that are more accurate... or just cooler.

That doesn't mean the replacements are as much fun. And what are we doing here if we're not trying to have fun? Am I right?

No one says "call me back" anymore because apparently, calling someone is rude now. We say "hit me up" instead, which is fine. I get it. It doesn't mean that we have to physically strike our friends (although we really want to sometimes) it's just how people say "call me back" nowadays. And you might have noticed that people say "like" a lot. Like they say it A LOT. It's like, the word of the day. Which has given us the following possibility in a phrase:
"Like, I don't like the way people like to say like, like all the time."

Does it make you want to smack someone or "hit them up"?

Alas, (another word that's fading and it's a shame) even "like" is being overtaken by a new phrase that seems to cover just about anything you want to say or express. I mean, it's being used by almost everybody now. I mean, you hear it everywhere. It's infected Movies, TV, Music, and everyday conversations with people. I mean, like, a lot of people. Have you guessed what that phrase is by now? I mean, it's right there. I just used it three times in the last paragraph.

I mean.

Now, people are explaining what they mean before they say it. I'm just as guilty (Do you have any idea how hard it was not to type: "I MEAN I'm just as guilty"? It's a bit maddening if you ask me. But I'm used to it now. It's kind of like a companion or cousin of "know what I mean?" See what I'm saying?

If you want people to hear what you have to say, you have to speak their language. And, as we've established, language evolves to suit those who use it.
Some of following phrases are being heard less and less nowadays. Either because we've found more concise phrases to replace them, or they're just more obscure. They still mean what they mean or what they used to mean. You may be using some of them yourself or know someone who uses them.  But these old phrases are still good. I mean, some of them are.

Some of them can "go the way of the dodo" (look it up)

"You bet your sweet bippy" - WTF is a bippy?

"Diddly squat" - it's like a pronoun of a cussword.

"A nod is as good as a wink" - Really? WTF?!

"Keen as mustard" - It actually refers to KEEN'S brand mustard and it's spicyness. Try to ketchup...

"A stitch in time saves nine" - No. Just NO.

"All that and a bag of chips" - I actually still hear this from time to time...and I love chips.

"Tickle your fancy" - Yep. It means what it sounds like. Kinda suggestive? Dirty? Yep.

"Bob's your uncle" - very British way of saying "there you have it".

"The greatest thing since sliced bread" - You gotta understand, slicing bread was apparently revolutionary...in a good way.

"Don't have a cow!" - This one should come back! Bart Simpson tried and he has kept it on life support. It's so useful! It means Calm down! Shut up! Keep your shirt on! Don't freak! Easy, killer!

You get it

WEARING YOUR MAN

Your man’s clothes can be the perfect thing to wear when you are in need of some comfort. And there’s some science behind the idea. Researchers (University of British Columbia) say that wearing something with your partner’s scent on it reduces stress, loneliness and anxiety. The study involved 96 women who were randomly assigned to smell one of three scents: their romantic partner’s, a stranger’s, or a neutral scent. The partners were asked to wear a T-shirt for 24 hours and then it was frozen to retain the smell. The scientists then measured stress and cortisol levels throughout tests such as a mock interview. They found the group who were given their partner’s scent had lower stress levels but those who smelled the T-shirts worn by a stranger were significantly more stressed.

JAPANESE CREATED BEST PICK-UP LINE

A few years back, Japanese sociologists and psychiatrists came up with the best pick-up line in the world: “This time next year, let’s be laughing together.” They claim that using “this time next year” sends a signal that the guy wants more than a one-night stand, while “together” gives the impression of romance and “laughing” makes it easy to deliver. And while we’re on the subject, here are some not-so-strong pick-up lines…
• Hi. I suffer from amnesia. Do I come here often?
• I didn’t know that angels could fly so low!
• Your eyes are blue like the ocean. And baby, I’m lost at sea.
• Your lips look so lonely… would they like to meet mine?
• Do you have a map? I just keep on getting lost in your eyes.
• Do you believe in love at first sight, or should I walk by again?

A MYSERIOUS LOOKING CRASH SITE ON MARS!

An "otherwordly" crash site of another spacecraft was photographed by a NASA helicopter.

Back in 2020, the Perseverance Rover was sent up to the Red Planet with the Mars Helicopter called Ingenuity strapped to the bottom of it.
The initial plan was for Ingenuity - otherwise known as Ginny - to make no more than five test flights within 30 days but in the end, the aircraft surpassed expectations when it completed 72 flights between April 2021 and January 2024.
It's more impressive when you consider the fact that the helicopter was just half a meter (1.6 feet) tall and weighed less than two kilograms (four pounds).
As the first aircraft to successfully complete a powered, controlled flight on another planet, the purpose of the flights was to explore parts of Mars that couldn't be reached by the Perseverance rover.

One of the notable aerial images was captured in 2022 when the helicopter took photos of debris on the dusty, cold, desert. "There's definitely a sci-fi element to it. It exudes otherworldly, doesn't it?" Ian Clark, a Perseverance parachute system engineer, told The New York Times.

But before you go and make assumptions that Martians or alien life were responsible for the wreckage, this wasn't the case but rather was the result of us humans.

So what was the debris?

Basically, it was landing equipment used to help Ingenuity and the Peersererance Rover land on the surface of Mars in 2021.

In the photos, you can see the upright backshell and the debris which is thought to have impacted the surface at about 78 mph (126 kph).

“The backshell’s protective coating appears to have remained intact during Mars atmospheric entry. Many of the 80 high-strength suspension lines connecting the backshell to the parachute are visible and also appear intact," the space agency said.

“Spread out and covered in dust, only about a third of the orange-and-white parachute - at 70.5 feet (21.5 meters) wide, it was the biggest ever deployed on Mars - can be seen, but the canopy shows no signs of damage from the supersonic airflow during inflation.”

So scienc-ey.

A VERY LATE THANKSGIVING

This year’s Thanksgiving is the latest it can be (November 28). The date of Thanksgiving is determined by federal law, which mandates that it be celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November each year. This was established in 1941 to ensure a consistent holiday date and to avoid conflicts with the end of the month, which could shorten the holiday shopping season. Thanksgiving can fall as early as November 22, which happens when November starts on a Thursday. The last time this occurred was in 2018, and it will happen again in 2029.

Is Six Flags considering closing parks? What we know, impact on OKC's Frontier City

The parent company of Six Flags Frontier City could consider closing some of its 42 theme parks across the US, according to recent news reports.

The news comes months after a major merger worth $8 billion joined Six Flags and Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. under the new label, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. The merger initially did not affect Oklahoma City's parks, Frontier City and Hurricane Harbor.

On Wednesday, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation released its quarterly earnings report that roughly detailed a long-range plan called "Project Accelerate." The plan promised a “comprehensive review of the portfolio to evaluate the potential divestiture of non-core assets to help reduce leverage.”

Would that review affect Hurricane Harbor or Frontier City? Here’s what we know:

Would Six Flags close Frontier City or Hurricane Harbor?

Six Flags corporate director of communication Gary Rhodes told USAToday that "we have no plans to close parks." Earlier on Thursday, Theme Park Insider reported that the closure or sale of Six Flags amusement parks could be "on the table" based on language in the company's recent earnings report.

Danielle Bonadona and Jacob Bartlebaugh are allowing their wedding guests to vote on their married last name.

Danielle Bonadona and Jacob Bartlebaugh have taken an unconventional approach to decide their married last name by allowing their wedding guests to vote. Both individuals are very attached to their surnames and have been unable to choose, leading to the consideration of a hyphenated option: “Bonadona-Bartlebaugh.” Although the complex name has raised concerns about its pronunciation, Danielle noted that it could feel like a significant change to abandon her last name but she is open to including her fiancé’s name.

The couple’s idea has struck a chord online, inspiring strangers to create a viral song and a dance dedicated to their unique combined name. Social media users have flooded Danielle’s TikTok with positive comments, while one animal shelter in Georgia even named a cat after them. With the wedding scheduled for February, the couple is eagerly awaiting their guests’ votes, and as they say, here’s to the “Bonadona-Bartlebaughs” as they navigate their path into married life!

THE SCIENTIST WHO THOUGHT THAT BIRDS MIGRATE TO THE MOON

Where do birds go in the winter? South, of course. But centuries ago there were all kinds of theories. One of the more bizarre was that of English minister and scientist Charles Morton, who in the 17th century wrote a surprisingly well-reasoned paper claiming birds migrate to the moon and back every year. And Morton was even aware of how epic this journey would be. He estimated the one-way trip to be 179,712 miles (he wasn’t so far off — the moon varies between 226,000 miles and 252,000 miles away), and reckoned it would take the birds 60 days to reach our satellite flying at 125 mph.

OCCASIONAL NAPS MAY HELP LOWER RISK OF STROKE, HEART ATTACK

A tranquil nap in the afternoon can be a great way to break up the day and add some pep to your step for the rest of your daily routine. And researchers in Switzerland found another reason why you should consider enjoying a regular daytime snooze: taking a daytime nap once or twice a week may lower your risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke. The study authors noted that the period of time spent napping didn’t seem to influence this benefit, nor did napping any more than twice per week.

THE FORMULA FOR THE PERFECT ROAD TRIP

A survey has uncovered the formula for the perfect road trip: it involves three people, covers 190 miles, and is accompanied by rock music. There needs to be at least one bathroom stop every 100 miles, good weather, and a GPS maps app — even though one in three of those surveyed said getting lost is the fun part of a road trip.
